FDA clears mobile telemedicine robot for certain hospital settings

The FDA has given 510(k) clearance to a mobile telemedicine robot for active patient monitoring in certain hospital settings.The RP-VITA Remote Presence Robot, a joint effort between iRobot and InTouch Health, combines autonomous navigation with telemedicine and electronic health records. Designed to facilitate remote doctor-to-patient consults, the robot “maps its own environment and uses an array of sophisticated sensors to autonomously move about a busy space without interfering with people or other objects,” according to an iRobot press release.
